Savannah, Georgia Historic District Illustrated Map
I've been wanting to do a Savannah map for a long time, so this project took me a while to get through because I wanted it to be super detailed and clean. I spent a few weeks working on it in my free time.
I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design many, many years ago, so I chose to make a map of all my favorite spots in the historic district. For this particular map, I was inspired by all the beautiful colors of Savannah in spring so I just kept adding more and more details. Because I'm a freelance designer, I usually have to change illustration styles from brand to brand. Yes, I used to draw everything by hand after graduating, but for the last few years as a web and print designer, it's always been so much easier and quicker to illustrate from scratch in Photoshop or Illustrator to get the projects done within budget. I still draw thumbnails and sketches in the planning phase, but they rarely get used in the final work. On this map, I used both Illustrator and Photoshop to do my vector artwork. I have been using both software since the 90s, so I'm able to work back and forth pretty interchangeably.
The buildings include Savannah College of Art and Design Armory, Green-Meldrim house, Mercer Williams house, Catherdral of St. John the Baptist, Tybee lighthouse, Bird Girl of Bonaventure Cemetery, Forsyth Park fountain, Asendorf house, Telfair Museum, Cotton Exchange, and many more.
